There are many ways of backing up a computer. Some external hard disks will come with utility backup software. It is not as important of how you back up your data but that you DO back up the files that are most critical to you. I have always preferred to back up data manually by working with two windows. If you don’t have a problem keeping your data organized in folders or find difficulty in moving data from one place to another, this will be easy for you. You may want to clean up or delete the documents that you no longer need first.
There are also some good online products that will do it automatically for you.

DO IT OR LOSE IT!
If you do not back up your data you may eventually lose it. Some companies charge upwards of $500 just to analyze a hard disk with no guarantees. It is very time consuming to recover data if the hard disk is not bootable.
